Character Name: K. P. Hob
Age: At least a millennium, but also who knows, time is weird in the fey realm.
Canon: Dimension 20: A Court of Fey and Flowers
Canon point: End of the show!
History: Wiki
Personality:
-Until recently, at least, one of Hob’s defining traits has been his obedience. He has, in his own words, spent most of his life taking the path of least resistance. He feared earning the disappointment or scorn of his own people, and most of what he did was in attempt to avoid it. Even as a war hero, deep down he felt he was less motivated by bravery and more by the desire to live up to others’ expectations.
-He does, on the other hand, care deeply about being honourable. “It is the doing of what is good and noble when the world conspires to prevent you from it.”
In the past he ultimately deferred to the idea of upholding the honour of the Goblin Court. Recently, however, he has decided to strive to live up to his lofty ideals, going so far as to leave the Court when he believes it the right thing to do.
-His attitude, especially with new people, comes off more than a little uptight. When uncertain, he falls back into behaving like a military officer; perfect posture, always at attention, and in some ways most comfortable following a clear set of rules for how to behave. This carries over into social situations as well, doing his best to follow the precise manners of polite society even when he doesn’t fully understand them. Even in the chaotic Goblin Court, he rather ironically stiffly recites their code of chivalry. “A true goblin never does as he's told, never tells as he's done, and never follows a rule, least of all this one.”
-On the other hand, he is ultimately still a goblin. While many of his attempts to fit in with the more chaotic side of his people are forced, there is a part of him that’s wild. This is evident to the extreme when he’s around a human, Wannessa. She activates a primal instinct to frighten humans, to play the role of the kind of monster goblins exist to fill. To a lesser degree he does things like eating live animals, and enjoys covering himself in mud.
-Despite, or perhaps even because of, all of his attempts to fit in and to live up to various expectations, Hob has always felt like an outsider.
“All Hob can think of is all those nights marching by the bonfire as far away from the goblin rumpus as he could get, and just thinking of what it means to have the only root you have not feed you.”
He has never felt like he fully belongs with the goblins, nor does he feel at home in other parts of fey society. While he’s smart, and good at memorising social graces in the same way he learns tactics and strategies, they do not come naturally to him. Although, as a war hero he has earned respect in some ways, his life has been very lonely and it has deeply affected his self esteem.
Suitability: While Hob will have some trouble learning to be around humans without feeling the need to chase them, he doesn’t want an apocalypse. Especially when he and Rue are both stuck here. But beyond that, he cares a lot about doing the right thing, and fighting the Entities certainly feels like the noble option.
While he’s recently stopped being a soldier, it’s still what he has the most experience with, so falling into a role at the ADI won’t be terribly hard for him either. He craves structure.
Powers/Abilities:
Powerful Build - as a 7 foot tall bugbear, he can carry and lift significantly more than a human in similar shape, roughly double.
Long-Limbed - his arms are long enough to reach his ankles, and he counts as having double the reach of a human; an extra 5 feet.
Darkvision - he can see in dim light to a range of 60 feet, and somewhat in darkness.
Sneak(er)y - bugbears are surprisingly stealthy, despite their size.
Training - mechanically Hob is a fighter, rogue, and barbarian. He has no special magical abilities, but he’s a soldier with incredible amounts of experience.
Entity Affinity: Honestly I’m a little torn. Goblins feel like they fall very much under Hunt, with maybe a touch of Dark–they’re the essence of a monster that exists for humans to fear, and more concerned with said fear and the chase than anything else.
On the other hand, Hob personally is a soldier with a long history of killing, and being around death, in battle.
In terms of what affects him the most emotionally, there’s a good case for the lonely.
Probably going slaughter, but wouldn’t mind input!
